Model Y - Trunk Booming Noise

Model Y - Trunk Booming Noise

Many Tesla Model Y owners have described hearing a distinctive booming noise,  especially when driving over bumps or rough surfaces. It appears that one of the main culprits behind this issue is the inadequate support of the trunk lid, particularly noticeable when driving over bumps and uneven terrain.

Root cause

The root cause of this noise is linked to the support mechanism of the trunk lid. As the vehicle traverses bumps and uneven terrain, the trunk lid may oscillate or vibrate, producing the distinctive thumping noise.

Tesla has identified this too

Tesla seems to have identified the same issue and is implementing increased trunk lid support in its newer model years. From the start of 2022 Tesla has added a reinforcement in the rubber trunk seal. From around 2023 additional trunk bump stops are featured on the model Y together with a sounds deadening parcel shelf.

Quick Fix
